Walk Pokhara along Phewa Lake
Pokhara is a lakeside city in Nepal with the Annapurna range rising straight behind it. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the lakeshore and the hill trails make a map with mountains in the background.
Lakeside
Lakeside is the district along the east shore of Phewa Lake, with a long road of cafes, shops and guesthouses and a path by the water. Boats cross the lake to the Tal Barahi temple on a small island.
On clear mornings, the Annapurnas and the peak of Machapuchare, the Fishtail, are reflected in the lake.
The hills
The World Peace Pagoda, a white stupa on a ridge across the lake, can be reached by boat and a climb through the forest, or by a longer walk around the shore.
Sarangkot, a hill north of the lake, has a path up from Lakeside to a viewpoint famous for sunrise over the mountains. Paragliders launch from it.
Seasons
The monsoon, from June to September, brings heavy rain and clouds that hide the mountains. Autumn, from October to November, is the clearest season. Spring is also good.
Old Pokhara, with the Bindhyabasini temple, is a few kilometres north of Lakeside. The city is the starting point for treks in the Annapurna region.
