Walk Queenstown by the lake

Queenstown is a small town on a mountain lake, ringed by peaks and walking tracks. FOG starts the map dark and clears only where you walk, and the tracks up the hills draw lines a car will never make.

Town and lake

Queenstown sits on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, with the Remarkables mountains across the water. The town centre is small, a few streets of shops and restaurants by the waterfront.

The Queenstown Gardens occupy a peninsula next to town, with a loop path along the shore. A lakeside track runs east toward Frankton for a longer flat walk.

Up the hills

The Tiki Trail climbs steeply through forest to the top of the Skyline gondola on Bob's Peak, with a view over the lake. From there, a track continues up Ben Lomond for a full day hike.

The Queenstown Hill Time Walk climbs the hill behind town to a viewpoint. A day: the town, the Gardens, up the Tiki Trail and back, then the lakefront.

Coverage

The town is tiny and fills almost immediately, so the satisfaction here comes from the tracks, which push long lines into the mountains.

Winters are cold and snowy, summers warm. Weather in the mountains changes fast.

Share the shape you walked

After a proper walk FOG can offer a walk card: the shape of the route you just covered in Queenstown, ready to post as a square, a story or the bare shape. The lifetime card shows the area you have unfogged, the distance travelled and how much of the city you have lit.

It all runs on your phone with no account and no cloud. Choose kilometres in Settings, pick a fog colour (Midnight, Abyss, Violet, Ember or Slate) and a density, and walk. Exploring is free, and one purchase of FOG Unlimited opens every rank, every path and Google Timeline and GPX import.
