Walk Belfast from City Hall to the Titanic Quarter

Belfast is a compact Victorian city on the Lagan, with a reborn shipyard district and neighbourhoods whose walls tell its recent history. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk.

The centre

Belfast City Hall, a domed building of white stone, stands at the centre of the city in Donegall Square. North of it, the Cathedral Quarter has narrow cobbled lanes, old pubs and arts venues around St Anne's Cathedral. The Victorian shopping streets lie between them.

South of the centre, Queen's University and the Botanic Gardens, with a Victorian palm house, anchor a leafy student area.

River and shipyard

Walk along the Lagan to the Titanic Quarter, the old shipyard where the Titanic was built. Titanic Belfast, the museum, has a shape that recalls ship hulls, and you can stand in the slipways where the ship was launched. The Lagan towpath runs upriver for many kilometres through parks and meadows.

West Belfast has the political murals of the Falls and Shankill roads and the peace walls between them. Many visitors walk there with a local guide to understand what they are seeing.

Coverage

The centre is compact, so it lights up quickly, and the walk to the Titanic Quarter adds a long arm along the river. Cave Hill, north of the city, is a climb with views over the lough.

The weather is mild and changeable, and rain is common. Bring a jacket.

How FOG keeps score here

FOG starts with the whole world under fog. Every place you physically walk clears a circle of roughly 120 metres around you, and that ground stays clear for good. It keeps working with the app closed and the screen off once you allow background location, so the walk to dinner counts as much as the planned loop.

There is no account, no sign-up and no cloud. The trail lives on your phone and nowhere else, and you can export a GPX backup whenever you like. Exploring is free; one purchase of FOG Unlimited adds the higher ranks, all five character paths and history import, with no subscription.
