Walk Fort Worth from the Stockyards to downtown

Fort Worth calls itself the place where the West begins, with a cattle town district, a red brick downtown and a long river trail between them. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, so even a sprawling Texas city becomes a map you can fill.

Downtown

Sundance Square is the heart of downtown, a plaza surrounded by restored red brick buildings, restaurants and a large mural of the Chisholm Trail. The Tarrant County Courthouse, a pink granite building, stands at the north end of Main Street above the river.

The Fort Worth Water Gardens, at the south end of downtown, are a set of concrete terraces with falling water, including a deep pool you can walk down into.

Stockyards and river

The Fort Worth Stockyards, a couple of miles north, is the old cattle district, with wooden boardwalks, saloons and a small cattle drive down Exchange Avenue twice a day. The Trinity Trails run along the Trinity River and link downtown, the Stockyards and parks to the west.

The Cultural District, west of downtown, has the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum and the Amon Carter Museum within a short walk of each other, with the Botanic Garden nearby.

Heat and distance

Summers are very hot, regularly near 100 degrees, so walk early or late. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.

Fort Worth is spread out, but the river trail makes it possible to link the districts on foot. Downtown, the Stockyards and the Cultural District together make a long day.

Background walking, private by design

FOG reveals the map with the screen off. Turn on background exploring and every street you cover in Fort Worth clears on its own, whether you were sightseeing or just walking back from the shops. On Android a notification stays up while it runs, so you always know it is on.

Your trail is processed and stored only on the device. There is no account and nothing is uploaded, ever. Export a GPX backup from Settings so the map survives a lost phone. Ranks, gear for your character and a monthly and yearly logbook all grow out of the same walking, and the basics are free.
