FOG
Canals, Haga and the archipelago

Walk Gothenburg through Haga

Gothenburg is a relaxed port city with canals in its centre, a cobbled old quarter and islands just offshore. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and the archipelago adds a scattering of islands to light up.

Canals and the centre

Central Gothenburg was laid out by Dutch engineers, with canals around and through the old town. The Feskekorka, a fish market in a building shaped like a church, sits on one of them.

Kungsportsavenyn, the Avenyn, runs south east from the canal to Gotaplatsen, with the Poseidon statue and the art museum.

Haga and the parks

Haga is an old working class district of wooden and stone houses, now a cobbled pedestrian street of cafes known for enormous cinnamon buns. Above it, the Skansen Kronan fortress stands on a hill with a view.

Slottsskogen, a large park, lies to the south west. Trams and ferries reach the southern archipelago, car free islands with paths along rocky shores, each one a new piece of map.

Coverage

Gothenburg's centre is compact and flat, with hills at the edges. It fills quickly, and the archipelago adds bright islands in a dark sea.

The weather is mild and often damp, with long summer evenings.

What the app adds to a walk

The ledger tracks the area you have unfogged, the distance you have covered and your share of the whole Earth. Ranks climb with area, from Fogbound and Wanderer up through Scout, Pathfinder and Explorer to Atlas. The collection fills with the countries, regions and cities you have actually stood in, and nothing else can add to it.

Everything stays on the phone: no account, no cloud, no app analytics, no ads. If you already have years of Google Timeline or GPX history, FOG Unlimited can import it, a single purchase rather than a subscription, so Gothenburg walks you took before installing appear on the map the same day.
