A map of every place you have visited
Most visited-countries apps ask you to tap the places you have been. That works, but it relies on memory and honesty. A map that records where you actually stood fills itself in, down to the streets.
Two kinds of travel map
- Scratch maps. You mark countries or states by hand. Quick, and fine for a rough count.
- Recorded maps. Your phone records where you go and the map fills in automatically. Slower to build, but every mark is real.
A recorded map also shows detail a scratch map cannot: not just that you went to a country, but which streets of which city you walked.
How FOG collects places
FOG starts with the world under fog and clears it wherever you go. Along the way it fills a collection: the countries, regions and cities you have physically been in. There are 241 countries, 3,390 regions and 7,342 cities to collect, and the only way to add one is to stand in it.
When you set foot somewhere new, FOG notes it: new country, new region, new city. The logbook records the places you first set foot in each month and year, and you can share a city from the collection.
Bringing in past trips
Years of travel can be added at once. FOG Unlimited imports Google Timeline exports and GPX files, so trips your phone recorded before you installed FOG fill in the map and the collection straight away. See Google Timeline import.
Private
No account, no sign-up, no cloud. Your travel history stays on your phone, never uploaded, and you can export a GPX backup. Exploring is free; FOG Unlimited is one purchase with no subscription. It is a phone app, on iOS and Android.
