Walk Granada up to the Albaicin
Granada sits below the Sierra Nevada, with the Alhambra on one hill and the old Moorish quarter on the other. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the Albaicin's tangle of lanes takes days to finish.
Two hills
The Alhambra, a palace and fortress complex of the Nasrid dynasty, stands on a wooded hill above the city. Visiting the palaces needs a ticket booked well ahead, but the woods and paths around it are free to walk.
Opposite, the Albaicin is the old Moorish quarter, a maze of white houses, steep cobbled lanes and walled gardens. The Mirador de San Nicolas, at the top, has the classic view of the Alhambra with the Sierra Nevada behind.
Along the Darro
The Carrera del Darro follows the small river Darro along the foot of the Albaicin, one of the most beautiful streets in Spain. Beyond it, Sacromonte has cave houses dug into the hillside.
In the lower town, the cathedral and the Royal Chapel stand in a grid of streets, with the Alcaiceria, a former silk market, nearby. A good day: the cathedral, the Carrera del Darro, up through the Albaicin to San Nicolas, down, and up again to the Alhambra.
Hills and heat
Granada is steep, and the Albaicin is a climb in every direction. Summers are very hot; spring and autumn are ideal, and winter is crisp with snow on the mountains.
The Albaicin's lanes are so tangled that they fill slowly, which makes finishing them a real achievement on the map.
How FOG keeps score here
FOG starts with the whole world under fog. Every place you physically walk clears a circle of roughly 120 metres around you, and that ground stays clear for good. It keeps working with the app closed and the screen off once you allow background location, so the walk to dinner counts as much as the planned loop.
There is no account, no sign-up and no cloud. The trail lives on your phone and nowhere else, and you can export a GPX backup whenever you like. Exploring is free; one purchase of FOG Unlimited adds the higher ranks, all five character paths and history import, with no subscription.
