Walk Hoi An's Ancient Town
Hoi An is a small, preserved trading port of yellow houses and lanterns on a river. FOG keeps the map dark until you walk it, and the Ancient Town is small enough to light up completely.
The Ancient Town
Hoi An was a trading port for centuries, and its old town keeps merchant houses, assembly halls built by Chinese communities and the Japanese Covered Bridge. The houses are painted yellow and hung with silk lanterns that glow at night.
Much of the old town is closed to motor traffic at set hours, which makes it pleasant to walk. Its streets run parallel to the Thu Bon river.
River and beyond
Cross to the An Hoi islet for the night market and a view back at the lanterns. Riverside paths lead out to the fields. An Bang beach is a few kilometres away, a nice long line on the map if you walk it.
Walk every street of the Ancient Town, then the riverbank, then cross the bridges. The town is so small that it is easy to finish.
Coverage
The old town is tiny and flat, making it one of the easiest historic centres anywhere to clear completely.
It is hot most of the year, and autumn brings heavy rain and floods that can cover the riverside streets.
What the app adds to a walk
The ledger tracks the area you have unfogged, the distance you have covered and your share of the whole Earth. Ranks climb with area, from Fogbound and Wanderer up through Scout, Pathfinder and Explorer to Atlas. The collection fills with the countries, regions and cities you have actually stood in, and nothing else can add to it.
Everything stays on the phone: no account, no cloud, no app analytics, no ads. If you already have years of Google Timeline or GPX history, FOG Unlimited can import it, a single purchase rather than a subscription, so Hoi An walks you took before installing appear on the map the same day.
