Walk Malmo from the squares to the sea
Malmo faces Copenhagen across the Oresund, a compact old town ringed by a canal, with parks and a waterfront district stretching out to a twisting tower. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and the flat ground makes long walks easy.
The old town
Gamla Staden, the old town, is surrounded by a canal. Stortorget is the large main square with the city hall, and Lilla Torg next to it is a small cobbled square of half-timbered houses and outdoor restaurants.
West of the old town, Malmohus is a Renaissance castle with museums, set in Kungsparken and Slottsparken, two linked parks with ponds and paths.
Coast and harbour
From the parks, walk to Ribersborg beach, a long sandy shore with the Kallbadhus, a cold bath house on a pier. North, the Vastra Hamnen district is a former shipyard area with modern housing and seaside paths, dominated by the Turning Torso, a twisting tower.
On clear days you can see the Oresund Bridge to Denmark from the coast. Inland, the Mollevangstorget area is a diverse neighbourhood with a market, and Pildammsparken is a large park with a lake.
Flat and breezy
Malmo is flat and compact, easy to cover on foot. Wind off the sea can be strong, and winters are damp and dark.
Summers are mild with long evenings, good for coastal walks.
How FOG keeps score here
FOG starts with the whole world under fog. Every place you physically walk clears a circle of roughly 120 metres around you, and that ground stays clear for good. It keeps working with the app closed and the screen off once you allow background location, so the walk to dinner counts as much as the planned loop.
There is no account, no sign-up and no cloud. The trail lives on your phone and nowhere else, and you can export a GPX backup whenever you like. Exploring is free; one purchase of FOG Unlimited adds the higher ranks, all five character paths and history import, with no subscription.
