Walk Monterrey from the Macroplaza

Monterrey is an industrial city surrounded by dramatic mountains, with one of the largest squares in the world and a river walk. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the Macroplaza and the river make long lines through the centre.

The Macroplaza

The Macroplaza is a huge chain of plazas through the centre, with the cathedral, the government palace, the Faro del Comercio, a tall orange tower that shines a laser at night, and museums along its length.

The Barrio Antiguo, east of the plaza, is the old neighbourhood of colonial houses, now bars, galleries and cafes.

The river walk

The Paseo Santa Lucia is an artificial river walk about two and a half kilometres long, running from the Macroplaza east to the Parque Fundidora. Boats run along it.

The Parque Fundidora is a huge park built in an old steelworks, with blast furnaces, lakes and paths.

Mountains and heat

Monterrey is surrounded by mountains, including the Cerro de la Silla, the saddle mountain. Summers are very hot. Winter is the best season.

The city is big and spread out, but the centre from the Macroplaza to the Fundidora is a good long walk.
