Walk Sedona's red rocks
Sedona sits among red sandstone buttes, and trailheads start minutes from town. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the trails here draw lines across one of the most striking landscapes in the country.
Town
Uptown Sedona is the small, walkable main street along the highway, with shops, galleries and views of the cliffs. Tlaquepaque, just south, is a shopping village built in the style of an old Mexican town, with courtyards and fountains.
The Chapel of the Holy Cross, built into the red rock south of town, is a short drive or a longer walk.
Trails
Cathedral Rock has a short, steep trail with scrambling near the top. Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte have a loop of about four miles around their bases. Devil's Bridge is a natural sandstone arch reached by a popular trail north of town.
Airport Mesa, close to town, has a loop trail with views over the whole valley and is popular at sunset. Many trailheads need a Red Rock Pass to park.
Heat and water
Summer days are hot, often in the upper 90s, so start early. Spring and autumn are the best seasons. Carry more water than you think you need.
Sedona is at about 4,300 feet. The trails are a different kind of map, scattered loops among the rocks rather than a street grid.
Bring the walks you already did
An empty map is a slow start in a city you already know. FOG Unlimited imports Google Timeline exports and GPX files, so years of past walks in Sedona clear straight onto the map, and you open the app to a real picture with obvious dark gaps in it. It is one purchase, never a subscription.
From then on FOG records by itself, with the app closed, and the trail never leaves the phone. No account, no ads, no tracking. The logbook writes a page for every month and year you were out, with the new ground and the new places you set foot in.
