FOG
An arena and a river loop

Walk Verona inside the Adige loop

Verona's old town sits inside a tight loop of the river Adige, with a Roman arena at one end and a hilltop view at the other. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and the loop makes a neat shape to fill in.

Inside the loop

The Adige wraps around the old town on three sides. Piazza Bra, at the southern edge, holds the Roman Arena, still used for opera in summer, with the Liston promenade alongside. Via Mazzini leads to Piazza delle Erbe, the old market square, and the Piazza dei Signori next to it.

Juliet's House, with its famous balcony, is just off Via Cappello and is always crowded. The quieter streets around the cathedral, at the northern tip of the loop, are better for wandering.

Bridges and the hill

Ponte Pietra, a Roman bridge rebuilt after the war, crosses the Adige to the foot of the hill of San Pietro. Climb the steps to Castel San Pietro for a view over the loop and the rooftops. To the west, the Castelvecchio fortress and its bridge cross the river.

A loop: Piazza Bra, Via Mazzini, Piazza delle Erbe, the cathedral, Ponte Pietra, up the hill, back along the river to the Castelvecchio.

Coverage

The old town is small and flat, and it fills quickly. The river loop makes a distinctive shape on the map, a bright lobe inside a dark curve.

Summers are hot and busy, especially during the opera season.

Background walking, private by design

FOG reveals the map with the screen off. Turn on background exploring and every street you cover in Verona clears on its own, whether you were sightseeing or just walking back from the shops. On Android a notification stays up while it runs, so you always know it is on.

Your trail is processed and stored only on the device. There is no account and nothing is uploaded, ever. Export a GPX backup from Settings so the map survives a lost phone. Ranks, gear for your character and a monthly and yearly logbook all grow out of the same walking, and the basics are free.
