Walk Agra from the Taj to the fort
Agra is the city of the Taj Mahal, with a great red fort upriver and a garden on the far bank. FOG keeps the map dark until you walk it, and the walk between the monuments lights up the riverside.
The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal, the white marble mausoleum built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, stands on the bank of the Yamuna River. It is closed on Fridays, and sunrise is the best time to see it.
Taj Ganj, the neighbourhood south of the Taj, has narrow lanes with rooftop cafes looking at the dome.
The fort and the bazaar
Agra Fort, a red sandstone fortress, stands upstream, about two and a half kilometres from the Taj. It holds palaces and halls inside, and Shah Jahan was imprisoned there in his last years with a view of the Taj.
Kinari Bazaar, near the Jama Masjid just beyond the fort, is a busy old market. Mehtab Bagh, a garden on the far bank of the river, faces the Taj and is a quiet place at sunset.
Heat
Agra is very hot from April to June. Winter mornings are often foggy. October to March is the best season.
The walk from the Taj to the fort along the river road is a good line. Fatehpur Sikri, an abandoned Mughal city, is about forty kilometres away.
What the app adds to a walk
The ledger tracks the area you have unfogged, the distance you have covered and your share of the whole Earth. Ranks climb with area, from Fogbound and Wanderer up through Scout, Pathfinder and Explorer to Atlas. The collection fills with the countries, regions and cities you have actually stood in, and nothing else can add to it.
Everything stays on the phone: no account, no cloud, no app analytics, no ads. If you already have years of Google Timeline or GPX history, FOG Unlimited can import it, a single purchase rather than a subscription, so Agra walks you took before installing appear on the map the same day.
