Walk Antalya from Kaleici to the cliffs
Antalya combines a walled old town around a Roman harbour with clifftop parks and long beaches on both sides. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and the cliffs and beaches stretch the map far in both directions.
Kaleici
Kaleici, the old town, is a maze of lanes and restored Ottoman houses around the old harbour. Hadrian's Gate, a Roman triple arch, leads into it from the modern city.
The Yivli Minare, the fluted minaret, is a symbol of the city, and the Kesik Minare, the broken minaret, marks an old church turned mosque. Down below, the old harbour is full of boats and restaurants.
Cliffs and beaches
The Hidirlik Tower stands on the edge of Kaleici, next to the Karaalioglu Park, which runs along the clifftop with views over the sea and the mountains. West of the city, Konyaalti beach stretches for kilometres with a promenade, and the Antalya Museum stands near its start.
East of the city, the lower Duden waterfall drops straight off the cliffs into the sea near Lara.
Very hot summers
Antalya is extremely hot in summer, so walk early or late. Winters are mild and sunny, ideal for long walks.
Kaleici is steep in places, down to the harbour. A full loop runs from Hadrian's Gate through the lanes to the harbour, up to the Hidirlik Tower and along the clifftop park, with an extra stretch west on the Konyaalti promenade for a long straight line.
The character who walks with you
FOG puts a small explorer called Wander on your position. Pick one of five paths (two are free, three come with FOG Unlimited) and every two levels on a path hands you a new piece of gear, earned only by the ground you cover. Twenty five pieces in all, and none of them can be bought.
Under the character it is a plain, permanent record: every street you walk in Antalya is cleared and stays clear, the app works in the background, and the map is stored only on your phone with no account and no cloud. You can export it as GPX at any time.
