FOG
A castle above the Danube

Walk Bratislava from the castle to the river

Bratislava has a small, walkable old town between a hilltop castle and the Danube, with a bridge topped by a flying saucer. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and the river and hills make easy targets.

The old town

The old town is compact and pedestrian, centred on the Main Square with the old town hall. Michael's Gate is the last surviving medieval gate, and its tower can be climbed. Bronze statues dot the streets, including Cumil, a worker peering out of a manhole.

St Martin's Cathedral, where Hungarian kings were crowned, stands at the edge of the old town. The Primate's Palace has a pink facade, and the Blue Church, the Church of St Elizabeth, is a short walk east.

Castle and river

Bratislava Castle sits on a hill above the old town, with gardens and views over the Danube and Austria. Further up, the Slavin war memorial stands on a hill with views over the city.

The Most SNP bridge has a restaurant and observation deck in a saucer-shaped structure on its pylon. Across it, the Sad Janka Krala park is on the right bank, and the Eurovea promenade runs along the river east of the centre. Devin Castle, a ruin west of the city, stands where the Morava meets the Danube.

Small with hills

The old town is small and flat; the castle and Slavin hills are steep. The city is easy to combine with a long river walk.

Summers are hot, winters cold.

Share the shape you walked

After a proper walk FOG can offer a walk card: the shape of the route you just covered in Bratislava, ready to post as a square, a story or the bare shape. The lifetime card shows the area you have unfogged, the distance travelled and how much of the city you have lit.

It all runs on your phone with no account and no cloud. Choose kilometres in Settings, pick a fog colour (Midnight, Abyss, Violet, Ember or Slate) and a density, and walk. Exploring is free, and one purchase of FOG Unlimited opens every rank, every path and Google Timeline and GPX import.
