Walk Cardiff from the castle to the bay
Cardiff has a castle in its centre, a web of Victorian shopping arcades and a waterfront bay a short walk south. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and the city is compact and flat enough to cover quickly.
Castle and arcades
Cardiff Castle sits in the middle of the city, its walls holding a Norman keep and a Victorian Gothic mansion. Bute Park stretches north from it along the River Taff, a long green corridor of paths and gardens.
The shopping centre is threaded with Victorian and Edwardian arcades, covered passages full of small shops, which are perfect for clearing tiny pockets of fog. The national stadium stands right in the centre beside the river.
Down to the bay
Cardiff Bay, about two kilometres south, was once the coal docks and is now a waterfront of restaurants, the Wales Millennium Centre with its bronze facade, and the Senedd, the Welsh parliament. A barrage walk crosses the mouth of the bay toward Penarth.
A good loop: the castle, the arcades, south to the bay, around the waterfront and over the barrage, then back. The Taff Trail heads north through Bute Park for a long walk out of the city.
Flat and compact
Cardiff is mostly flat, which makes for easy walking. The weather is mild and wet. Roath Park, in the north east, has a lake with a lighthouse memorial.
The centre and the bay show as two patches joined by your route between them, with the green corridor of Bute Park heading north.
What the app adds to a walk
The ledger tracks the area you have unfogged, the distance you have covered and your share of the whole Earth. Ranks climb with area, from Fogbound and Wanderer up through Scout, Pathfinder and Explorer to Atlas. The collection fills with the countries, regions and cities you have actually stood in, and nothing else can add to it.
Everything stays on the phone: no account, no cloud, no app analytics, no ads. If you already have years of Google Timeline or GPX history, FOG Unlimited can import it, a single purchase rather than a subscription, so Cardiff walks you took before installing appear on the map the same day.
