Walk Dubrovnik on its walls
Dubrovnik is a walled city on the Adriatic, small enough to cross in ten minutes and steep enough to take a whole day. FOG hides the map until you walk it, and this is one old town you can finish completely.
Inside the walls
The old town is enclosed by massive stone walls, almost two kilometres around. Enter by the Pile Gate and the Stradun, the main street, runs straight and flat through the middle, paved in polished limestone, to the old harbour.
On either side the town climbs steeply, with narrow stepped lanes running up to the walls. There are dozens of them, and every one is its own short street on the map.
Walls and hills
The walk along the top of the walls is the highlight, a full circuit with views over the red roofs and the sea. Then come down and work through the lanes one by one, north side and south side, until the whole grid is lit.
Outside the walls, a cable car or a zigzag path climbs Mount Srd for a view over the town and the islands. Lokrum, a small island, is a short boat ride away, and the Lapad peninsula has seaside paths.
Crowds and heat
Dubrovnik is very busy in summer, especially when cruise ships are in. Walk early in the morning or in the evening, and visit in spring or autumn if you can. The stone streets get very hot.
The old town is so small that clearing all of it is genuinely possible in a couple of days, and it looks wonderful on the map: a bright, dense shape on the edge of a dark sea.
Background walking, private by design
FOG reveals the map with the screen off. Turn on background exploring and every street you cover in Dubrovnik clears on its own, whether you were sightseeing or just walking back from the shops. On Android a notification stays up while it runs, so you always know it is on.
Your trail is processed and stored only on the device. There is no account and nothing is uploaded, ever. Export a GPX backup from Settings so the map survives a lost phone. Ranks, gear for your character and a monthly and yearly logbook all grow out of the same walking, and the basics are free.
