Walk Luang Prabang between two rivers
Luang Prabang is a small town of temples and old houses on a peninsula where the Nam Khan meets the Mekong. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the whole town fits in a couple of days.
The peninsula
The old town, a World Heritage site, stretches along a narrow peninsula between the Mekong and the Nam Khan. Its streets mix Lao temples with French colonial houses. At dawn, monks walk the streets collecting alms.
Wat Xieng Thong, at the tip of the peninsula, has sweeping roofs and glass mosaics. Riverside paths follow both rivers.
Up Phousi
Mount Phousi rises in the middle of the town, with a few hundred steps up to a small temple and a view over the rivers at sunset. The night market fills the main street in the evening.
In the dry season, bamboo bridges cross the Nam Khan to villages on the other bank. A loop of the peninsula along both rivers, plus the streets in between, covers the old town. Kuang Si waterfalls are outside town.
Coverage
The town is small and flat around the hill, so it can be almost entirely cleared, making a bright tongue of land between two dark rivers on the map.
The cool, dry season from November to February is the best time to walk.
How FOG keeps score here
FOG starts with the whole world under fog. Every place you physically walk clears a circle of roughly 120 metres around you, and that ground stays clear for good. It keeps working with the app closed and the screen off once you allow background location, so the walk to dinner counts as much as the planned loop.
There is no account, no sign-up and no cloud. The trail lives on your phone and nowhere else, and you can export a GPX backup whenever you like. Exploring is free; one purchase of FOG Unlimited adds the higher ranks, all five character paths and history import, with no subscription.
