Walk Oxford between the colleges
Oxford is a compact city of colleges, lanes and meadows, with rivers on two sides. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and a few days here light up a dense web of medieval streets.
The centre
The centre of Oxford is a cluster of colleges, libraries and churches. The Radcliffe Camera, a domed library, stands in a square beside the Bodleian Library, and the Bridge of Sighs links two parts of Hertford College over New College Lane. The High Street curves down toward Magdalen Bridge.
Between the main streets are narrow lanes, such as Turl Street and the passages around the Covered Market, that are easy to miss and quick to clear.
Meadows and rivers
Christ Church Meadow lies between the colleges and the rivers, with paths along the Cherwell and the Thames. To the north west, Port Meadow is a huge open common beside the Thames, where you can walk out to the riverside pubs at Binsey and Godstow.
Jericho, beside the canal, is a neighbourhood of small terraced houses. A full day: the colleges and lanes of the centre, Christ Church Meadow, along the river, back through Jericho and out across Port Meadow.
On the map
Oxford is flat and the centre is small, so it fills in quickly. The meadows remain open ground on the map with your paths crossing them as long lines.
Many colleges charge for entry or restrict access, but the streets and lanes are public, and they are what clears the fog.
Bring the walks you already did
An empty map is a slow start in a city you already know. FOG Unlimited imports Google Timeline exports and GPX files, so years of past walks in Oxford clear straight onto the map, and you open the app to a real picture with obvious dark gaps in it. It is one purchase, never a subscription.
From then on FOG records by itself, with the app closed, and the trail never leaves the phone. No account, no ads, no tracking. The logbook writes a page for every month and year you were out, with the new ground and the new places you set foot in.
