Walk Paraty's old town
Paraty is a small colonial town on the coast between Rio and Sao Paulo, with white houses, big stone streets and high tides that wash into the lanes. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the old town is a small grid you can finish.
The historic centre
The Centro Historico is a grid of white houses with coloured doors and windows, along streets paved with big uneven stones. The centre is closed to cars.
At high tide, especially during full moons, the sea washes into some of the streets, a design that once helped to clean them.
Churches and the bay
The Igreja de Santa Rita, a white church by the water, is the classic image of Paraty. The Igreja Matriz stands on the main square.
The Forte Defensor Perpetuo, a small fort on a hill north of town, is reached by a path. Boats leave the harbour for islands and beaches in the bay.
Coverage
Paraty is small, and the old town is a few blocks across. The stones are uneven, so wear good shoes.
The town is warm and humid, with rain in summer. The Flip literary festival takes place here each year, and the cachaca distilleries in the hills around town make an easy outing.
Bring the walks you already did
An empty map is a slow start in a city you already know. FOG Unlimited imports Google Timeline exports and GPX files, so years of past walks in Paraty clear straight onto the map, and you open the app to a real picture with obvious dark gaps in it. It is one purchase, never a subscription.
From then on FOG records by itself, with the app closed, and the trail never leaves the phone. No account, no ads, no tracking. The logbook writes a page for every month and year you were out, with the new ground and the new places you set foot in.
