A pink parish and steep cobbles

Walk San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is a colonial town of cobbled streets and coloured houses climbing a hillside below a pink Gothic church. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the whole centre is a few days of walking.

The Jardin

The Jardin, the main square, faces the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel, a church with a pink stone neo-Gothic facade that has become the symbol of the town. The streets around it are cobbled, lined with houses painted ochre, red and orange.

The historic centre is a World Heritage site, and its streets are full of galleries, courtyards and churches.

Up the hill

The town climbs steeply to the east, and a mirador at the top gives a view over the rooftops and the Parroquia. El Charco del Ingenio, a botanical garden in a canyon, lies beyond.

Down the hill, the Parque Juarez is a shaded park, and the Fabrica La Aurora, a former textile mill, houses galleries north of the centre. Walk every street around the Jardin, then climb.

Coverage

The centre is small, so a few days clears most of it. The cobbles and slopes are tiring, so wear good shoes.

The town is at about 1,900 metres, with warm days and cool nights.

What the app adds to a walk

The ledger tracks the area you have unfogged, the distance you have covered and your share of the whole Earth. Ranks climb with area, from Fogbound and Wanderer up through Scout, Pathfinder and Explorer to Atlas. The collection fills with the countries, regions and cities you have actually stood in, and nothing else can add to it.

Everything stays on the phone: no account, no cloud, no app analytics, no ads. If you already have years of Google Timeline or GPX history, FOG Unlimited can import it, a single purchase rather than a subscription, so San Miguel de Allende walks you took before installing appear on the map the same day.
