Walk Tampa from the Riverwalk to Ybor City

River and bay
The Tampa Riverwalk follows the Hillsborough River for around two and a half miles through downtown, past museums, parks and the old Tampa Bay Hotel with its silver minarets, now part of the University of Tampa. Armature Works and the Heights sit at its northern end.
Bayshore Boulevard runs south west from downtown along Hillsborough Bay with a continuous waterfront sidewalk of about four and a half miles, a classic flat walk with the water on one side and grand houses on the other.
Ybor City
Ybor City, east of downtown, was built by Cuban, Spanish and Italian cigar makers. Seventh Avenue is its main street, lined with brick buildings and iron balconies, and the old social clubs and the Ybor City Museum tell the story. Wild chickens roam the streets.
A good day: the Riverwalk north to Armature Works, back through downtown, then the streetcar or a walk out to Ybor City. Another day: Bayshore end to end, returning through Hyde Park Village.
Flat and hot
Tampa is very flat, which makes long walks easy, but summers are hot, humid and stormy. Walk in the morning and evening, and save long outings for the cooler months.
The core districts form a compact cluster. Bayshore draws a long diagonal line that makes the map look anchored to the water.
