A bazaar, a metro and wide avenues

Walk Tashkent from Chorsu Bazaar

Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan, a city of wide avenues, parks and a famous metro, with an old town of mosques and a huge domed bazaar. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the avenues draw long, straight lines.

The old town

Chorsu Bazaar, under a big blue dome, is the main market, selling bread, spices, dried fruit and meat. The Kukeldash Madrasa stands beside it.

The Hast Imam complex, a short walk north, has mosques and madrasas around a square and a library with an ancient Quran, one of the oldest in the world.

The centre

Amir Timur Square, with a statue of Timur on horseback, is the centre of the modern city. Broadway, a pedestrian street, runs from it. Independence Square, nearby, is a large park with fountains.

The Tashkent metro is famous for its stations, each decorated in a different style with chandeliers, marble and mosaics.

Heat and coverage

Summers are very hot. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.

Tashkent was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1966, with wide avenues and big parks. The distances are long, so mix walking with the metro. The Minor Mosque, a white mosque by the Ankhor canal, and the Tashkent Tower, a tall television tower in the north, make good targets for longer walks.

Bring the walks you already did

An empty map is a slow start in a city you already know. FOG Unlimited imports Google Timeline exports and GPX files, so years of past walks in Tashkent clear straight onto the map, and you open the app to a real picture with obvious dark gaps in it. It is one purchase, never a subscription.

From then on FOG records by itself, with the app closed, and the trail never leaves the phone. No account, no ads, no tracking. The logbook writes a page for every month and year you were out, with the new ground and the new places you set foot in.
