Walk Annecy by the lake

Canals of the old town
The Vieille Ville is threaded by the Thiou and other canals, with flower-lined bridges and arcaded streets such as Rue Sainte-Claire. In the middle of the Thiou sits the Palais de l'Isle, a former prison shaped like the prow of a ship.
Above the old town, the Chateau d'Annecy stands on a hill and holds a museum. A short climb further leads up to the Basilica of the Visitation, with a wide view over the town and lake.
Along the lake
The Jardins de l'Europe are a tree-filled park between the old town and the lake, linked to the Paquier, a big lawn on the shore, by the Pont des Amours over the Vasse canal. Boats leave from the quays for trips around the lake.
A shared path follows the western shore of the lake south out of town, so you can extend a city walk into a long lakeside line. The Semnoz mountain rises above the town for hikers who want a real climb.

Annecy gets warm summers and snowy, cold winters, and mountain showers can arrive fast. Summer brings big crowds to the canals.
