Walk Chefchaouen's blue medina

Chefchaouen is a small town in the Rif mountains whose medina is painted in shades of blue, from the doors to the stairs. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the whole medina is a map you can finish in a day.

The medina

The medina of Chefchaouen is a tangle of steep lanes and stairs, with houses painted blue and white. Every turn makes a photo.

Plaza Uta el Hammam is the main square, with cafes, the Grand Mosque and its octagonal minaret, and the kasbah, a fortress with a garden and a small museum.

Up the hill

Ras el Maa, at the top edge of the medina, is a spring where the water runs out of the mountain. From there, a path climbs to the Spanish Mosque, a white mosque on a hill with views over the blue town, popular at sunset.

The Rif mountains around the town have trails for longer walks.
