The Burcht is a fortified mound in the middle of the city, with a view over the roofs. The Molen de Valk, a tall windmill near the station, is now a museum.
Leiden is known for its wall poems, painted on the sides of buildings in many languages, and following them is a good way to cover the side streets. Museums include the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and Naturalis.

Leiden is flat and small, so the whole centre is walkable in a day. Watch for bicycles on every street.
