Walk The Hague from the Binnenhof to the beach
The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government, a city of stately streets and parks that runs right down to a North Sea beach. FOG keeps the map dark until you walk it, and the walk to the sea draws a long line out of the centre.
The centre
The Binnenhof, the old parliament complex, stands beside the Hofvijver, a pond in the middle of the city. Next to it, the Mauritshuis holds Dutch Golden Age paintings, including Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. The Plein is a square of cafes nearby.
The Lange Voorhout is a broad tree-lined avenue of mansions, and the Noordeinde Palace, a working royal palace, is a short walk west. The Grote Kerk and a small Chinatown add old streets to the south.
To the sea
The Peace Palace, home of the International Court of Justice, stands at the edge of the centre. From there, the path through the Scheveningse Bosjes woods leads toward the sea.
Scheveningen is a beach district with a long promenade, a pier and the harbour. Walking out from the centre, along the beach and back draws a big loop on the map. The Haagse Bos, a forest on the other side of the centre, adds more paths.
Flat but windy
The Hague is flat and green, easy to walk in any direction. The wind off the North Sea can be strong.
Rain is common, and summers are mild.
The character who walks with you
FOG puts a small explorer called Wander on your position. Pick one of five paths (two are free, three come with FOG Unlimited) and every two levels on a path hands you a new piece of gear, earned only by the ground you cover. Twenty five pieces in all, and none of them can be bought.
Under the character it is a plain, permanent record: every street you walk in The Hague is cleared and stays clear, the app works in the background, and the map is stored only on your phone with no account and no cloud. You can export it as GPX at any time.
