Walk Rotterdam across the Maas

A modern centre
Rotterdam lost most of its old centre in 1940 and rebuilt it with ambition. The Markthal, a horseshoe shaped market hall with a painted ceiling, faces the Kubuswoningen, the tilted cube houses by Piet Blom, at the Oude Haven. The Depot Boijmans, a mirrored bowl, stands in the Museumpark.
Coolsingel and the Lijnbaan, one of the first pedestrian shopping streets in Europe, run through the centre. The Euromast, a tall tower, overlooks the Het Park on the river.
Over the river
The Erasmus Bridge, nicknamed the Swan, carries walkers over the Maas to Kop van Zuid, where Hotel New York occupies the old Holland America Line offices among new towers. Walk back over the Willems Bridge for a loop across the river.
West of the centre, Delfshaven survived the bombing and keeps a historic harbour and old buildings, a quieter walk of a few kilometres along the water.
