FOG
The falls from the Canadian side

Walk Niagara Falls along the gorge

Niagara Falls, Ontario faces the falls across the gorge, with a riverside promenade that runs right to the brink of the Horseshoe Falls. FOG keeps the map dark until you walk it, and the river path draws a long line along the edge of the water.

The falls

The promenade along the Niagara Parkway runs along the top of the gorge facing the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls, then reaches Table Rock, at the edge of the Horseshoe Falls, where the water drops just metres from the railing.

Queen Victoria Park, beside the path, has gardens and lawns. At night the falls are lit in colours, and fireworks are held on many summer evenings.

Town and the river

Clifton Hill, the street that climbs from the river, is a strip of arcades, wax museums and a big wheel. The Rainbow Bridge, at the bottom, crosses to the United States, with a pedestrian walkway and a border crossing.

North along the gorge, the Niagara River Recreation Trail runs for many kilometres downstream toward Niagara on the Lake, past the Whirlpool and the Botanical Gardens.

Practical notes

The spray from the Horseshoe Falls soaks the path near Table Rock, and in winter it freezes on everything. Summer is crowded, spring and autumn are quieter.

The walk from the Rainbow Bridge to Table Rock is about two kilometres. The town is a mix of tourist strips and quiet streets.

Share the shape you walked

After a proper walk FOG can offer a walk card: the shape of the route you just covered in Niagara Falls, ready to post as a square, a story or the bare shape. The lifetime card shows the area you have unfogged, the distance travelled and how much of the city you have lit.

It all runs on your phone with no account and no cloud. Choose kilometres in Settings, pick a fog colour (Midnight, Abyss, Violet, Ember or Slate) and a density, and walk. Exploring is free, and one purchase of FOG Unlimited opens every rank, every path and Google Timeline and GPX import.
