Walk Udaipur around Lake Pichola
Udaipur is a Rajasthani city of lakes and palaces, with a white city palace above the water and old lanes running down to the ghats. FOG starts the map dark and clears only what you walk, and the lakeside old city is a lovely map to fill.
The old city
The City Palace, a complex of palaces on the east shore of Lake Pichola, is the biggest in Rajasthan. The Jagdish Temple, a carved temple, stands just north of it, and the old city's lanes run down from there to Gangaur Ghat on the lake.
The Bagore Ki Haveli, by the ghat, is a mansion museum with an evening show of dance.
Lakes
Lake Pichola has the Lake Palace, a white palace now a hotel, on an island. A footbridge at Gangaur Ghat crosses to Hanuman Ghat, on the other side of an arm of the lake, with views back to the palace.
Fateh Sagar Lake, to the north, has a promenade along its eastern shore. Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace, stands on a hill to the west.
Coverage
Udaipur is hot from April to June. Winter is the best season. The lakes depend on the monsoon and can be low in dry years.
The old city is compact and hilly. The walk from the palace to the ghats and around the lake makes a good loop.
How FOG keeps score here
FOG starts with the whole world under fog. Every place you physically walk clears a circle of roughly 120 metres around you, and that ground stays clear for good. It keeps working with the app closed and the screen off once you allow background location, so the walk to dinner counts as much as the planned loop.
